Wedding Wednesday// Our Ceremony
This wedding Wednesday is a special one – the most important part of the day, our ceremony!

Due to COVID, we chose to Facebook Live our wedding. This allowed so many people to see our ceremony, even those that we not able to be invited in the first place. This was definitely one of the best decisions we made for wedding weekend!
About an hour before the ceremony started, it started to rain. Now, I am not talking about a drizzle. I am talking a full on monsoon with thunder and lightening. I had predicted this was going to happen on our wedding day – it poured down rain on our high school graduations, numerous major college events, it just made sense. I thought I would have been in more of a panic, but somehow I was really calm. It came down to about 15 minutes before our ceremony time and it was still raining pretty hard. The bridesmaids, my parents, and Matthew’s mom were with me in the Farmhouse, while the guys, the photographer, and everyone else was hanging out in the barn.
After looking at the radar, I called my photographer and asked her opinion on postponing for 30 minutes. I told myself I would walk down the aisle if the radar was “green,” ha. So we waited. Thankfully all of our guests were completely understanding and hung out in the barn to wait it out.
I knew the rain was bad, but it wasn’t until the next day that I knew what really happened. The wind was really bad and the guys ended up having to go out in the pouring rain and fix the decorations. Our unity ceremony stand ended up completely breaking, so my sister had to hold it up for us during the ceremony. I didn’t even notice until Matthew told me all this the next day!
Because of the heavy rain came so fast, the property was really muddy. The bridesmaids were able to make it to one of their cars with the help of my dad. He took a shower curtain liner and held it over all of them on the walk from the Farmhouse to the venue. It was the cutest thing, like a duck and its ducklings, haha!
I knew there was no way I would be able to get to a car or make the walk to the barn without getting my dresses completely ruined. So, I made the decision to get out of my dress, back into my pajamas, and drive over to put it back on. The guy’s had to be kicked out of their room a little early, sorry!
I was able to get back into my dress just in time for Matthew and I to have a first touch right before the ceremony. I was really suddenly really nervous, but then touching his hand that last time before we were at the altar immediately calmed me down. The first thing I said was “I told you it was going to rain.” He said a prayer for us and I lost it. I think the reality finally set in that I was finally marrying this man. If it hadn’t of been for the first touch, I think I would’ve been a basket case walking down the aisle.

The time was finally here. One of my favorite memories of the day was the last moment with my dad before we walked down the aisle. We both looked at each other and said “are you ready.”

I always told myself I would be upset if Matthew didn’t cry when I walked down the aisle. He didn’t, but the smile on his face is something I will never forget. He later admitted he almost cried and was fighting it the whole time 😉
The ceremony went perfect and was so sweet. We had the sound of light rain, cows mooing, and frogs croaking in the background. We both got confused on what hand to put the rings on, which made us giggle. But, everything went perfectly!
At the end of the ceremony, we were married. No pandemic or rain or anything else could change that, and that’s all that mattered!
