Remembering 9/11: My trip to the 9/11 Memorial Museum
September 11, 2001 is a day our country will always remember. Even though 19 years have passed, this day will always bring back memories and pull at heart strings of Americans.
I was in the 1st grade in 2001. I think adults my age and maybe a year or two younger are the youngest of people who have an actual memory of the day. I don’t remember much, and I for sure was not old enough to truly grasp what happened back then.
We were sitting in our classroom reading a story when another teacher came into our room and told my teacher to turn on the TV. I didn’t really understand what was going on, but before I knew it more and more kids were leaving the classroom and going home from school. It wasn’t long before my Mom came to pick me up. At the time, my sister was only almost 2 months old. Looking back now, I can only imagine the fear parents felt once the Country knew that this was not an accident. This was planned by evil people, with only hatred toward this great Country.
Growing up, I feel like I learned a lot about the attacks. We talked about it every year in school, I watched programs on TV. We were (and still are) living through the effects that day brought – day after day. I thought I truly understood the tragedy that took place, as best I could any way.
I know that I will never have the right words to say, and probably just rambled a lot during this post. But, I am proud to be an American every single day. I am thankful for those fighting overseas for my Freedom. I am thankful that I know if something goes wrong, I will have people who are willing to risk their life to save mine. I try my best to live every day making sure the ones I love most know it. I thank God every day for blessing me with the life I live, especially in this great United States of America. What was done to us on September 11, 2001 is something that never should have happened. We were forever changed. A day as monumental as that is one I will Never Forget.
